Career Opportunities and Student Programs in the US Foreign Service

As the world is witnessing the devastating invasion of Ukraine, the importance of diplomatic efforts and serving our nation to maintain peace in the world is evermore present. We are honored to have Mr. Allen DuBose presents the career opportunities and student programs in the U.S. Foreign Service. Mr. DuBose is a career U.S. Foreign Service officer who began his career with the U.S. Department of State in 2005. He is the Diplomat in Residence of Spelman College. DuBose is a management career track officer and has previously served as a Vice Consul and Management Officer in Hermosillo, Mexico, General Services Officer in Guayaquil, Ecuador, and Management Officer in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He also served domestically in Management and Human Resources assignments in support of U.S. Missions in Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East. During this talk, Mr. DuBose discusses key challenges, advice, expectations, and opportunities based on his experiences. He offers tips for applications of U.S. Foreign Service student programs. He explains the quality and requirements to be a successful candidate and the potential career paths after these programs. Mr. DuBose also shares his rewarding experience of applying business skills in complex international environments. Listeners can learn about the career-long training, skills development, and international lifestyle offered as a Foreign Service Officer.
