Like it or not, virtual learning is here to stay! While most of us are giving a sigh of relief that we can go back to normal in Fall 2021 with ‘business as usual’, all the signs seem to point that higher education business model has fundamentally shifted. New technologies, new platforms and new processes have emerged. Virtual learning will form a significant part of our portfolio in the coming decade.
Demand for teaching online has increased significantly and even top educators are striving to adjust their teaching methods for a virtual delivery. As seasoned educators, we all recognize learning comes from student engagement. Sustaining effective learning over extended hours demand energy, both physical and emotional. Our aspirations is that students will not only go through the regurgitation of some contents, but experience a perceptible movement in their beliefs, skills and knowledge. Many of us struggle how to bring this 3Es into our learning models in the virtual space.
Join us to explore some ideas in design, delivery and assessment to enhance the 3Es in virtual learning.
Key takeaways:
• What are some simple steps in design and delivery stages that can substantially enhance engagement, energy, and experience in virtual learning?
• What do we know from neuroscience about “Concert Hall Effect” and how can we apply that to our virtual learning?
• What can we learn from Psychology research on “Bystander Effect” and how can we apply it in virtual learning to enhance engagement?
• What are some modifications we should consider in our assessment if we want to create an exceptional experience for our students?
